  I don't know how that could possibly relate to the change you have described, but I think the first thing to check is that you are actually running Saxon 9 or 8 through Ant (and not Saxon 6, implementing only XSLT 1.0.)

  The error messages format does not seem familiar to me, but maybe that's just because of Ant.
