Background and General Description

The World Bank Group’s research and knowledge products are an important prism through which the outside world views the Bank Group and its mission. The Publishing and Knowledge division of the External and Corporate Relations Vice Presidency (ECRPK) works to advance the Bank's research, knowledge, learning, and communications goals by publishing Bank knowledge in multiple formats for multiple audiences. World Bank publications and electronic products are a highly visible, key component of the World Bank Group.

The Publishing Systems and Electronic Product Development team in ECRPK has four main areas of responsibility. 1) The team manages and supports the main systems underlying the publishing workflows, such as the title management system (Klopotek), content management system (PCMS/RSuite), and digital asset distribution system (DAD via CollectionPoint) for the formal book program. 2) The team leads cross-functional efforts to maintain and update; curate and transform content and metadata for; and enhance features and functionality of ECRPK’s major Open Access database (Open Knowledge Repository [OKR]) and major subscription database (World Bank eLibrary). 3) The team conceptualizes and develops other electronic products, including mobile applications and enhanced ebooks, as required. 4) The team uses and supports the tools, scripts, and outputs required for digital book publishing and dissemination, eproduct development, and reporting, including working with the World Bank DTDs and reviewing and repurposing the resulting XML/XHTML files.

The team works closely with ECRPK’s Acquisitions, Editorial/Production, Marketing, and Rights teams and liaises externally with technology vendors, conversion houses, co-publishers, international institutions, and other partnering institutions.
