[Schematron] Is this list still active?

George,

Thanks for the reply...we actually tried to hire Betty for this project, but we couldn't come to terms...

Our issues are not so much with stability, but Schematron's ability to do certain things. For example, one of our current validation rules is that a submitting agency must exist in our database, be validated for data submission, and the vendor (specified in the import XML) must be approved for the state. Currently, we just look the agency id up in the database, and if the id exists, it's a valid agency. Now, we HAVE to do this with Schematron. So, can Schematron do database access? If so, is there an example of how to do it?

I work for an organization that runs EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Data Systems for three states...there is a national XML dataset, called NEMSIS, that specifies what data is to be sent to us, and how it should be represented. There has been a decision made over three years ago to use Schematron as a rules engine, as it is multiplatform (we are a Java shop, but many of the EMS software vendors are .NET). The process is that each vendor, prior to submitting data for the state to us, pass their XML through our Schematron rules to validate that their XML is not only schema valid, but business rule valid.

We are in the very early stages of thinking the rules engine out, so we have many questions about how we should do this....

Paul

Hi Paul,

The list is as active as the number of questions asked... Schematron is quite stable and there are not many questions recently.

As far as I know Betty Harvey is the admin for this list.

Best Regards,
George
